Govt to create 23,500 vacancies in schools

Kathmandu, March 25

The government is planning to create 23,500 additional vacancies for secondary level teachers in a bid to improve the quality of education in community schools.

Responding to a question put forth by Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal lawmaker Mahendra Raya Yadav in the House of Representatives, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in its written answer stated the government was planning to create more vacancies for secondary level teachers to balance the ratio of teachers and students in community schools. Lawmaker Yadav had questioned the ministry’s ability to provide sufficient number of teachers in community schools.

The ministry’s answer also stated that at present the primary level had 80,176 quota of teachers, lower secondary had 16,224 quota and secondary level had 12,718. As per the ministry the existing quota was not sufficient to impart quality education in community schools.

Moreover, responding to the question registered by lawmaker Prem Suwal regarding government’s preparation to impart primary education in mother tongue from the next fiscal, the ministry stated the government was preparing primary level textbooks in 25 languages to ensure children’s right to education in mother tongue.

Primary level textbooks are being prepared in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Limbu, Bandata Rai, Chamling Rai, Sherpa, Gurung, Tamang, Magar, Nepalbhasa, Tharu, Sunuwar, Rajbhansi, Yakhaya, Mugali, Tharu-mid region, Tamang-Sambhota, Dhimal, Magar-Athar, Magarat, Bajjika, Kulung, Chepang, Kharing Rai and Maji, as per the ministry.

The lawmakers had asked 101 questions and seven written questions to 18 ministries, including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
