Govt mulling over extended Dashain holidays

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to  extend Dashain holidays and close the government offices for 14 days from Ghatasthapana on October 13.

The Cabinet will have to approve the proposal prepared by Ministry of Home Affairs, which intends to extend the seasonal holidays to reduce the consumption of fuel.

The authorities are preparing to distribute petrol and diesel to public and private vehicles in order to facilitate general public to return home for Dashain.

The official calendar has Dashain holidays from October 20 to 24 only.

The country is reeling under acute shortage of fuel due to obstruction in supplies at Nepal-India border for two weeks.
