“The committee will focus on bringing the restaurants under the ambit of law and come up with directives to operate them,” Ritu Raj Bhandari, an undersecretary at the MoWCSW, said today.

The committee will submit its report to the ministry within three months. It will comprise under-secretaries of the Ministry of Labour and Transport Management, Industries and Commerce, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Home, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, representatives of the Pro Public and other NGOs and the employers’ organisation. Bhandari added that the Pro Public had filed a petition in the Supreme Court on the issue of operation of the restaurants three years ago.
