Govt to prepare DPR for metro rail

Kathmandu, May 29

The budget for the fiscal year 2016/17 presented by Minister for Finance Bishnu Paudel at the Legislature-Parliament yesterday said the government would prepare the detailed project report for metro railway in the Kathmandu Valley by managing resources for the same.

The government also plans to carry out feasibility study on the construction of Kathmandu-Birgunj railway. Introduction of high security embossed number plate for all motor vehicles are also on the cards. “Digital metre system will be made compulsory for taxis operating in the Valley,” read the budget.

It also said that National Security Policy would be implemented in the overall interest of the country. “Nepali Army will be mobilised for national security, disaster management and construction works by providing it necessary resources and means.

A dependable environment of law and security will be created through coordination between the local administration, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department,” read the budget.

The government has also decided to install more CCTVs to keep vigil on criminal activities. “Vehicle digital checkpoint will be set up in sensitive areas and main transit points of the capital city with round-the-clock automatic monitoring system,” it said.

On education sector, the government has announced that it will mobilise fresh master’s level students in development works and teaching-learning activities in various VDCs for six months.

“The government will also make necessary arrangements for interest free loan to students against the collateral of their academic certificates for the purpose of pursuing bachelor’s degree or above,” said the budget.
