KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 21
The Government of Nepal, in partnership with international organizations and demographic experts, is set to host the Sixth Asian Population Conference (APC) in Kathmandu from November 27–30, 2024.
This landmark event will convene over 500 delegates from more than 35 countries, including leading policymakers, researchers, and academics. With a primary focus on population dynamics in Asia, the conference aims to address pressing demographic challenges and opportunities to foster sustainable development, according to Prof Yogendra Bahadur Gurung, Head of the Central Department of Population Studies, TU.
The APC provides a unique platform for countries to exchange ideas and learn from one another. Organizers emphasize that this conference will delve into the implications of population transformations on social and economic welfare.
Participants will explore the interplay between demographic trends and broader socio-economic factors, using recent data and analyses to assess issues such as aging populations, migration, urbanization, and youth engagement. These discussions aim to draw actionable insights to guide policy formulation and regional cooperation.
Scheduled highlights include keynote addresses by Nepal's Prime Minister and international experts, thematic plenaries, and specialized workshops on gender equity, climate adaptation, and population policy integration. The event will also feature cultural programs showcasing Nepal's heritage, reinforcing the host nation's commitment to sustainable and inclusive development. This initiative reflects Nepal's growing leadership in demographic planning and its resolve to align population policies with sustainable development goals.
