Govt staffers gherao Speaker’s office, ministry

Kathmandu, July 9:

Government and Corporation Vehicle Drivers’ Association (GCVDA) and National Independent Employees Milan Kendra (NIEMK) today jointly gheraoed the offices of the Speaker of the Parliament and the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction. They also obstructed traffic in Singha Durbar for some hours. They alleged that the government has not addressed their demands, including creating posts of assistant level workers, which has been halted since 2001, and demanded an end to the discrimination against them.

Madhu Sudhan Gurung, central member of GCVDA, said their yesterday’s talks with the members of the government team ended inconclusively.
