Govt to get 300 electric buses for public transport

Kathmandu, December 27

The government has decided to procure 300 electric buses for public transport.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota said the government had taken the decision to procure electric vehicles as part of its plan to promote clean energy.

He said charging stations would be set up in different parts of the country for electric vehicles.

“A fully charged electric bus can travel 400km,” Baskota said and added that the government wanted the private sector to also use electric vehicles for public transport .

The government has also approved a concept paper on Public Transportation Management presented by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transportation. Minister Baskota said the government had decided to form an authority for public transport management. “The authority will manage the public transport sector in the country,” he said.
