Govt to provide state honours to Gurung at funeral

KATHMANDU: The government said funeral of national anthem composer Amber Gurung would be held with the state honours.

The time for the final rites is not fixed yet. It has been learned that the kin are consulting family priests to prepare the funeral.

The "father of modern Nepali music"' had passed away at 2:37 this morning in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is on his way to the Grande International Hospital to offer his condolence to the bereaved family of veteran singer and music composer.

The body of the music legend Gurung would be kept at the Nepal Academy, Kamaladi after 11 am to 3 pm today for members of the public to offer their homage.

It has been learned that the final rites of Gurung would be performed according to Hindu and Buddhist rituals today itself.
