GPK health worsens

KATHMANDU: Wednesday’s meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) Central Committee (CC) has been postponed due to the deteriorating health of its president Girija Prasad Koirala.

According to sources, the former PM Koirala, whose health condition is worsening by the day is scheduled to be taken to India for further treatment.

Octogenarian leader Koirala, 86, was earlier flown to Singapore by an air ambulance when he fell seriously ill for treatment at Gleneagles Hospital, a 380-bed private tertiary acute care hospital from November 14 to 22, 2009.

Koirala has been receiving oxygen for 24 hours at his residence at Maharajgunj following complications in his health in recent days. Earlier he was being administered oxygen five to seven hours a day.

According to NC CC member Krishna Prasad Sitaula, the decision about where Koirala is to be taken for treatment would be taken after the return of his daughter Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala from her Europe trip tomorrow.
