GPK inaugurates NC Mahasamiti meet

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala on Sunday inaugurated a three-day Mahasamiti meeting at Nepal Academy, Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

Addressing the programme he said that there is no other option for the parties than to come to consensus for the solution to the ongoing transitional phase of the country. He also urged Maoists to come to consensus abandoning the protest programmes scheduled to begin from Sunday.

He also suggested to the party officials not to limit the role of the NC president and further said that they should give continuity to presidential leadership.

In the closed door session NC vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel proposed a political proposal, general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi submitted a political draft, NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula submitted a constitutional draft and Chakra Prasad Bastola submitted a new constitution draft and nation reconstruction draft.

The constitutional draft which was prepared by the constitutional draft committee in coordination with NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula was presented in the Mahasamiti meeting as the central committee was unable to make a decision on it.

Earlier the central members argued on the issue of the president’s role in the collective leadership of the party.

Meanwhile, Nepal Trade Union Congress has demanded the resignation of the Minister for Labour Mohammad Aftab Alam over his failure to implement the past pacts with UTL Company. They have accused the Minister of failing to implement the agreements inked earlier to reappoint the employees who were fired by the company.
