Guesthouse operator held on gold smuggling suspicion

KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday arrested a guesthouse operator on the suspicion that he was involved in smuggling undeclared gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Kamal Niraula (45) from Biratnagar Sub-Metropolitan City-4 was arrested from Nepal's sole international airport,  in Kathmandu yesterday.

The entrepreneur who operates the Dantakali Guesthouse in Naya Bus Park of Kathmandu was leaving the airport after collecting four gold chains, weighing 199 gram, police said.

The suspect as well as the haul have been sent to the TIA Customs Office for further investigation.
