Healthy baby contest

Kathmandu, August 4

Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital organised a healthy baby contest, marking the hospital’s anniversary today.

The annual event is organised for babies born at the hospital.

The annual event has three categories — 45 days old, 46 days to six-month old and six-month to one-year-old. Six infants from 0 to 45 days age group, 49 from 46 days to six month age group and 42 from the six to one year age group participated in the contest this year, informed Dr Sailendra Bir Karmacharya, consultant pediatrician at the hospital and a jury member of the contest.

“Of the 97 contestants, 12 babies — four from each of the three categories — won the contest. Winners of the contest were picked on the basis of their physical and mental health, mothers’ care provided to them and their nutritional and immunisation status, among others.

While assessing the contesting babies’ heath status, the jury uses a letter grading system, considering ‘A’ as the highest grade and ‘E’, the lowest grade.

Earlier, parents interested in including their babies in the contest were asked to apply to the hospital with a copy of the ante-natal card, the baby’s birth certificate, immunisation card and photos of their child.

“The hospital has been organising the event to raise health awareness among people, including nursing mothers,” informed Amir Babu Shrestha, director at the hospital.
