High Court appointments erroneous, advocates reiterate

KATHMANDU: There were mistakes in the appointment of 80 High Court judges and they should not be repeated, Attorney General Raman Kumar Shrestha said on Tuesday.

Judge appointment has always been made controversial and this is not good, he opined.

Nobody has right to do things going beyond the Constitution, the Maoist appointee added while commenting on the newfound Bar-Bench controversy in the wake of the judge appointments.

Advocate Govinda Panthi accused the Chief Justice Sushila Karki of being responsible for the debacle.

All good works she did in the past have been shrouded by the controversial appointments, according to him.

He said the CJ has to clarify why she made the decision in absence of other senior Supreme Court justices and Bar representatives.

Agreeing with Panthi's remarks, senior advocate Gopal Krishna Ghimire further said the appointments were neither inclusive nor on the par with the spirit of Nepal's Constitution.
