Hooligans, traffic rule violators booked

Police today arrested 159 persons for hooliganism and booked 558 motorists for violating traffic rules in Kathmandu valley during Holi celebrations.

According to Nepal Police Spokesperson SSP Uttam Raj Subedi, those arrested were involved in hooliganism, fighting, consuming alcohol in public place and disturbing peace. He also said many of them were found throwing water-filled balloons and forcefully smearing coloured powders on others’ faces without their consent.

According to Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, 558 motorists were booked till 5:00 pm. They were booked for rule violations such as not wearing safety helmets, drink-driving and driving without licence.

Likewise, MTPD said that 18 government-owned vehicles were taken into custody for plying on public holiday.
