Hospital in Madhyapur Thimi soon
Bhaktapur, November 12:
The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Madhyapur Thimi Municipality are all set to construct a 50-bed Korean Hospital at Meche Danda, Madhyapur Thimi ward no. 11.
The municipality signed an agreement with the KOICA to build the hospital at Siddhikali. According to the agreement, the municipality will manage all infrastructure like road, drinking water, electricity, telephone and 10 ropanis of land for the hospital, while the KOICA will bear the cost of construction of the hospital. Bhimsen Thapa, director of the Korean Friendship Hospital, told this daily today that the KOICA has agreed to provide Rs 82 million for the construction of the hospital. “They will complete the construction of the hospital by October 28, 2008 and hand it over to the municipality,” said Thapa.
The hospital will have gynaecology ward, paediatric ward, medical ward and surgery ward, he said. It will be the first community hospital within the municipality, Thapa said. “People will not have faith in our services if we provide them for free. Therefore, we will be charging nominal fees.”
Govinda Singh Bhandari, executive officer of Thimi municipality, said, “We decided to manage necessary physical infrastructure for the hospital because the construction of the hospital will improve the health status of people as well as increase the economic activities in the vicinity.”
The municipality has widened the road leading to the hospital and has begun gravelling it. “We will cooperate with others, including the Road Department, to blacktop the road,” he said.
