Kathmandu, March 19:

House of Children, a pre-school and kindergarten, was opened at Mahankal today. The kindergarten, which is for the children aged between two and five years, has different sections, namely toddlers’ class, playgroup, kindergarten and preparatory. According to Tenzing Wangmo Sherpa, the school principal, curriculum is designed to ensure the holistic development of children. The curriculum helps enhance the children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development through integrated Montessori and Thematic approaches.

A toddler’s room — for children aged between 18 months and two years — has various educational play materials, which help them concentrate, identify colours and shapes. In the Montessori room, a child’s creativity is nurtured through hands on activities.

The children are taught the basics of subjects like Math, Science, Geography, English, Nepali and Tibetan so as to make them ready for enrolment in schools. Children are taken to a well-equipped music room where they get to listen to music before the classes begin. “The student-teacher ratio at our school is 1:8, which is the international standard,” Sherpa added. Through planned, stimulating environment, we will help the child develop foundational habits, attitudes and skills, she said.
