House panel concerned about striking doc’s health

Kathmandu, July 17

A team from Social Justice and Human Rights Committee of the Legislature-Parliament will visit the Maharajgunj-based TU Teaching Hospital tomorrow to take stock of Dr Govinda KC’s health condition.

A member of the committee informed that a team led by its chairperson Sushil Kumar Shrestha will inspect the fasting place and consult doctors attending to Dr KC before issuing a certain directives to the government to end the crisis.

The parliamentary committee took the decision as the government has taken no steps so far to convince Dr KC to call off his hunger strike. Dr KC is on fast-unto-death for the past eight days.

According to doctors attending to the agitating doctor, his health is deteriorating and that he may need medical intervention any time.

Meanwhile, issuing a joint press release, as many as 15 civil society leaders, including Nilambar Acharya, Kedar Bhakta Mathema and Abhi Subedi, have urged the government and political parties to find a solution to the crisis at the earliest.

National Human Rights Foundation has also urged the government save Dr KC’s life and fulfill his demands relating to reforms in the education education sector to end his protest and save his life.
