House panel summons CIAA officials including Chief Karki

KATHMANDU: The Parliament's Good Governance and Monitoring Committee on Friday decided to summon all the officials of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), including its chief Lok Man Singh Karki, for discussion in the CIAA's alleged interference into the entrance examinations of the Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS).

The House Committee summoned the CIAA officials at its meeting scheduled for Sunday after holding a discussion on the claims of CIAA's undue interference into the KU affairs related to the entrance examinations of a master’s programme.

The KU officials were summoned in the Committee's meeting today. It has been learned that the KU's  registrar, Bhola Thapa, had accepted that the CIAA had interfered into the entrance examinations.

Prof Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging fast-unto-death for the past 12 days, has accused the CIAA and its chief Karki of the unnecessary interference in the medical education sector with a motive to promote corruption.

Earlier on Thursday, three lawmakers including Gagan Thapa, Dhanaraj Gurung and Shyam Shrestha, registered proposals of public importance at the Parliament Secretariat and Good Governance and Monitoring Committee of the Parliament seeking debate on the issues raised by Dr Govinda KC.
