Human trafficking convict on the run for 7 years nabbed
KATHMANDU: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday arrested a human trafficking convict on the run for 7 years, from Khaireni in Chitwan.
The fugitive, identified as a 53-year-old Ram Bahadur Tamang (53) of Salme in Nuwakot, had taken a woman from Dhading to India on January 5, 1992 on the pretext of marrying her, with the help of two other traffickers. They had sold her for INR 17,000.00 to a brothel in Mumbai of India.
Though the Dhading District Court sentenced Tamang to 17 years in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 17,000.00 on June 7, 2010, he was hiding from law enforcement authorities.
Police on Sunday itself presented Tamang before the Court, which later sent him to Dhading prison to serve his terms.
