Imported plants run the show
KATHMANDU: Some indigenous plants have great aesthetic and environmental value. Yet it is the imported plants that run the show in offices, public parks and households in the capital.
“Some indigenous plants look as beautiful,” said Prof Keshab Shrestha, a botanist, adding that the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation should set up nurseries for the plants that have both aesthetic and ecological values. “It’s a pity that even the government offices import plants to decorate their offices,” he rued.
Kalki, Asare, Kainyo, Lahare Pipal, Masala, Jacaranda, Puwale, Silinge, Rittha, Harro, Barro, Jamun, Chilaune, Chhatiwan, Palas, Simal, Phalat, Sugandha Kotila, Rudrakshya, Jamane Mandro, Pangra, Neem, Tendu, Kharani, Sanan, Rajbrikshya, Painyu and Cassia are among the indigenous plants that have both aesthetic and ecological values.
