Detainees hurt in mishap

Kathmandu: Over a dozen of people including at least two policemen were injured when a truck carrying some demonstrators after their detention from a rally rammed into a pole at Dhumbarahi on Tuesday. The truck was carrying NC (D) demonstrators detained from a rally. Over a dozen of NC (D) cadres and at least two policemen were injured, party sources said.However, police said only five demonstrators and two policemen were injured in the accident. —hns

Pact on programmes

KATHMANDU: The Social Welfare Council and the Himalayan Cataract Project, a US-based organisation, have signed an agreement to conduct various programmes in Nepal for five years. According to the agreement, HCP will provide at least $60,000 annually for the projects to be conducted through various local organisations. SWC member-cum-secretary Dr Prabha Busnet and HCP chairman Rex Sore signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. — RSS

Malinowski meets King

KATHMANDU: King Gyanendra granted audience to the ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal, Michael E Malinowski, at the royal palace here on Tuesday. Ambassador malinowski is returning to US on completing of his tenure in Nepal. — RSS
