Ponds, lakes go extinct

LALITPUR: Majority of ponds and lakes in the Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City (LSMC) have disappeared due to the lack of conservation. There were four dozen lakes and ponds recorded in the municipality earlier but the number has shrunk considerably. “There are only 12 of them in existence now,” said architect Saubhagya Pradhananga, chief of the Culture and Archaeology Unit at the Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City. Pradhananga said the government was planning to preserve the remaining ones. He further said the locals were also keen on preserving the ponds and lakes for the aesthetic and environmental promotion. The LSMC is said to be planning to preserve lakes, historical inscriptions, stone spouts, sculptures and idols. — HNS

Convention put off

Kirtipur: The general convention of the ANNISU (Revolutionary) said to be held in Chitwan on 16-21 November has been put off. The seventh plenary meeting of the ANNISU (Revolutionary) Central Committee yesterday took the decision. General Secretary Himal Sharma said the convention was postponed, considering the upcoming central general convention of the UCPN-Maoist.- RSS
