Maoists' protest on

KATHMANDU: Protesting President Dr Ram Baran Yadav's decision on the army chief issue the UCPN- Maoist aligned Newa Mukti Morcha staged a sit-in on the road leading to the President's Office at Maharajgunj on Friday. Defying the prohibitory order, Maoist cadres with banner and placard staged sit-in for an hour from 11am. Dozens of police personnel deployed to maintain law and order prevented the demonstrators from advancing to the President's Office. Vehicular movement came to a standstill in and around TU Teaching Hospital because of the protest. —THT Online


Exam postponed

KATHMANDU: An emergency meeting of the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) held on Friday cancelled the examination of Mathematics-216 scheduled for the day. The exam was cancelled when the question paper was found to have leaked before the exam started. "The postponed exam will be held on May 27," a statement issued by the HSEB said. The meeting also formed a high level probe committee headed by the HSEB vice-chairperson. The committee also comprises representatives from Ministry of Home Affairs and the crime division of the Police Headquarters. — THT Online


Cry for equal status

KATHMANDU: Babita Basnet, president, Sancharika Samuha, said on Friday that there should be 50 per cent participation of women in every sector. Stating that the women deserved equal status as the males, she said the new constitution should empower the fairer sex. The participants also expressed concern on the delay in drafting the constitution. — THT Online
