US, UN rebuff reports

KATHMANDU: Amid reports that non-refugees are also being resettled in the United States as Bhutanese refugees, the UNHCR and the US Embassy in Kathmandu on Wednesday clarified that all refugees, who were resettled in the United States, were the genuine refugees. Issuing a press statement , the American Embassy said that several reports published in Nepal contained factually inaccurate information regarding the refugees’ resettlement, adding that each refugee had passed through an extensive screening process before resettlement. — HNS
