NSU slams Maoists
KATHMANDU: The pro-Nepali Congress student union, Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) on Thursday condemned the Maoist attack on former minister of state Dilendra Prasad Badu and Narendra Singh Dhami at Darchula district on February 5. Issuing a press release on Thursday, the union said the Maoists were still overwhelmed by the extreme left characteristics. The NSU warned to take revenge if the Maoist leadership didn’t control such activities at the earliest. The NSA has also demanded immediate arrest of those involved in beating NC leader Badu. Meanwhile, the NSU urged the government to address the demands of agitating teachers and appealed all to help open schools as soon as possible. — HNS
‘95 journos killed’
KATHMANDU According to a study, 95 journalists and other media workers were killed world-wide in 2007.A report presented by ‘’World Association of Newspapers (WAN)’’ based in France shows that among the killed, two thirds had been put to death in Iraq and others at conflict zones while being engaged in their duty.The report also shows that 44 journalists were killed in Iraq last year. Somalia was the second deadliest place for journalists, with eight killed whereas six in Sri Lanka and five in Pakistan.Similarly, 110 were killed in 2006, 58 in 2005, 72 in 2004 and 53 in 2003 across the world.It is learnt that five journalists have already been killed in Afghanistan, Brazil, Honduras, Iraq and Nepal in 2008. — RSS
