KATHMANDU: Dr Sanduk Ruit, Medical Director of Tilganga Eye Centre, has been announced one of the recipients of the ‘Prince Mahidol Award 2007’. The Prince Mahidol Award Foundation of the Kingdom of Thailand announced on Tuesday Prince Mahidol Awardees for 2007 in the field of Medicine and Public Health at a press meet in Bangkok, the Embassy of Nepal said. Dr Ruit shares the ‘Prince Mahidol Award 2007’ with Prof Basil Stuart Hetzel from Australia in the field of Public Health. — RSS
Govt staffers awarded
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Tuesday presented the Outstanding Civil Service Award of Fiscal Year 2006/07 to five civil servants and the Civil Service Award to 15 civil servants at a function at the his residence in Baluwatar. While the Outstanding Civil Service Award carries a purse of Rs 100,000, the Civil Service Award carries a purse worth Rs 50,000. On the occasion, the PM also directed the employees to work for the people. — RSS
PM’s message to Rudd
Kathmandu: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala congratulated Kevin Rudd on Tuesday for being elected as the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia. In a congratulatory message, Koirala expressed his best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Australia under Rudd’s leadership. KATHMANDU: Mother of chief reporter of the RSS and litterateur, Ramesh Toofan expired on Tuesday morning. Ailing from heart disease for a long time, Laxmi Devi Acharya, 87, died at Kapan. Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress expressed deep sorrow over her demise. — RSS
