LALITPUR: Arun Jyoti Secondary School of Jorpati on Friday won the second Inter-school Quiz Competition organised by Arniko Secondary Boarding School, Talchhikhel, to mark the World Environment
Day. Adarsha Vidhya Mandir School of Manbahwan came second in the competition. A total of 14 schools had participated in the competition. The winners were handed out trophies while all the participants received certificates. Chief Guest Dilip Sauden, principal of Jupiter

UML’s condolence
KATHMANDU: Chairman of CPN-UML Jhala Nath Khanal said that his party was deeply saddened by the demise of Nepali Congress leader Shailaja Acharya. Issuing a press release on Friday, he said that Acharya’s death was an irreparable loss to the country’s democratic movement. “The country has lost an honest leader,” Khanal said, expressing heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family. Similarly, Nepal Women’s Association and INSEC in separate statements expressed condolences over Acharya’s demise. — RSS
MoFA’s clarification
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has said that its attention has been drawn towards a news item published recently under the headline ‘Nepal’s thumbs down to probe rights abuses’ in The Kathmandu Post. “The ministry would like to clarify that Nepal is not a member of the Human Rights Council at present. Therefore, Nepal does not cast votes on the resolutions of the Council,” the MoFA said, issuing a press statement on Friday. — RSS
Russian FM greets
Kathmandu: Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov on Friday congratulated Sujata Koirala on being appointed as the Foreign Minister of Nepal.In a congratulatory message, Lavrov expressed his confidence for further strengthening of the existing traditional ties and cooperation between the two nations for the welfare of their people in the days to come. — RSS
Regmi elected
KATHMANDU: Senior reporter of RSS, Hem Raj Regmi, has been elected as the chairman of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Employees’ Association on Friday. The other to be elected in the committee are Krishna Adhikari as vice chairman,Krishna Prasad Sapkota as secretary , Govinda Bahadur Karki as treasurer and Mohini Mishra, Tek Nath Dahal, Keshav Khatri, Yadav Gotame and Hari Prasad Banstola as members. All of them were elected unopposed. The election for other members in the executive committee will be held on June 21, according to a press release issued by the committee.
