SC scraps order
Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a certiorari order and scrapped the decision by the royal regime to shut down the Communication Corner Pvt Ltd two years ago. A division bench of Justices Sharada Shrestha and Bala Ram KC issued the verdict following today’s final hearing. The Communication Corner had moved the SC on 30 May 2005 challenging the then government’s decision to shut down the company’s operation. The apex court had issued a stay order that prevented the Ministry of Information and Communications from shutting the company’s operations. — HNS
Vegetarians’ body
Kathmandu: The Nepal Vegetarian Association was formed on Tuesday to mark the World Vegetarian Awareness Month. The association will create awareness for leading a vegetarian life. People from different walks of life highlighted the positive aspects of vegetarianism and stressed the need of being vegetarian to prevent diseases. Dr Sundar Mani Dixit said a vegetarian was less likely to suffer from illnesses than a non-vegetarian. Madhav Niraula, coordinator of the NVA, said, “We are campaigning for non-violence and healthy society and are hopeful of getting positive responses from people.” — HNS
Haj committee
KATHMANDU: Government has formed a 24-member Haj Committee under the chairmanship of Mohammed Ijaharul Haq Mikarani for the management of Haj trip. The members of the committee include: Saiyad Samim Shaha, Kathmandu; Moulana Hajrat Miya, Sunsari and Amanullah Seikh, Mahottari, among others. Sudhir Kumar Shah, the Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration and Border Administration Section, is member secretary of the committee.— RSS
