Man arrested

KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, on Sunday night, arrested Krishna Dhamala, of Jhapa, with a country-made pistol and five unused bullets. DSP Bikash Khanal at the police station said he was arrested from Gangabu on a tip-off. — HNS

Muslim body’s call

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Muslim Ittehad Association has urged the government to recognise Idul Fittar (ID), a festival of the Muslim community, as a national festival, as agreed upon between the government and the Muslim association earlier. The festival is being marked by organising various programmes from October 12 to 17. Issuing a press release, Taj Mohamammad Miya of the association demanded that proportional representation of all castes, religions and communities be ensured in the upcoming elections to a Constituent Assembly. — RSS

Envoy meets Deuba

KATHMANDU: Israeli ambassador to Nepal, Dan Stav, called on a leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Monday. The two held consultations on the peace process in Nepal, contemporary political situation and relations between the two countries, the NC said.
