UML tea party

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has planned a tea party on Friday on the occasion of dashain. The party will be held in its central office at Balkhu, a statement issued by the party on Thursday said. Buddhist nun dead

KATHMANDU: Ratna Manjari, the eldest Buddhist nun in Nepal, died on Thursday. She was 82. Born in 1923 in Dhankuta, she spent most of her days in Bhojpur and finally became a nun in Kushinagar in India in 1945. She has played a crucial role in bringing back Theravada Buddhism in Nepal. Her family members knew her as Narendra Kumari Shrestha. She was one of the chief nuns at the Dharmakirti Vihar in Kathmandu and an Acharya at the Vipassana Meditation Centre. — HNS

Eight scale Manaslu

KATHMANDU: Eight members of the Japan Mt Manaslu Expedition 2006 team have successfully scaled the 8,163-metre high Mt Manaslu on October 1.
