12 prisoners hurt :

KATHMANDU: Twelve prisoners were injured when two groups of prisoners at the Central Jail in Tripureshwor clashed on Monday. Officials said the clash ensued after the prisoners could not agree on whether the three prisoners who were on a hunger strike for three days should be taken to the hospital for treatment or not. The prisoners are on a strike demanding mass amnesty. The injured prisoners are being treated at the Bir hospital. — HNS

NHRC plea to Maoists :

Kathmandu: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday forwarded a letter to the Maoist talks secretariat seeking details of missing individuals and cases of killings in Maoist captivity. The NHRC called on the Maoists to reveal the status of 152 individuals as well as give them a detailed account of abduction complaints registered with the commission, the NHRC said in a statement. “Our investigations have revealed that the Maoists killed 24 individuals in their captivity, thus, we asked the rebels to provide us more information of the killings,” the statement said. — HNS

Four robbers held :

KATHMANDU: A police team from the Valley Crime Investigation Branch (VCIB), Hanumandhoka, on Sunday night arrested four persons, who were all set to rob a house belonging to Shankanath Maharjan at Manamaiju, Kathmandu. According to Keshav Adhikari, SP at the VCIB, those arrested are Daimond Lama alias Puran, 19, of Dolakha, Bijay Subba, 26, of Sunsari, Prakash Thakuri, 21, of Ilam and Suraj Gurung, 20, of Nuwakot. Police seized a country-made pistol, two khukuris, a knife and an iron rod from them. — HNS
