KATHMANDU: A 40-year-old Indian national, Sanjay Lohiya, jumped to death from the seventh floor of Saket Complex at Tripureshwor on Monday afternoon. According to police, Lohiya was mentally retarded. “He asked the security guard if he could meet a person inside the building. When he reached the seventh floor, he broke the glass of window and jumped,” police said. — HNS

Meet on HIV

Kathmandu: The Regional High Level Meeting on Human Trafficking and HIV began here on Monday. About 80 delegates from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bang-ladesh, Maldives and Afghanistan along with UNDP regional representative are taking part. The meeting aims at discussing the vulnerability of women and young girls to trafficking and subsequent exposition to HIV. The delegates include officials from

Ministry of Health and Women, judiciary, civil society, trafficked women and HIV positive women. The participants pointed out that vulnerability was rooted in and aggraved by poverty, depravation and severe gender inequality that exist in political, social, education and economic areas of life. —HNS
