Idol installed

LALITPUR: The idol of Rato Machhindranath was installed in the newly-constructed chariot at

Pulchowk on Friday. The installation of the idol also marked the beginning of the longest festival in the Kathmandu valley. A ritualistic procession with accompaniment of traditional music and Gurju Paltan brought the idol from Machhindra Bahal to Pulchowk. The chariot will be towed along the alleys of Patan from Monday.

The chariot procession will end after reaching Jawalakhel on Bhotojarta Day. — HNS

5 held for robbery bid

KATHMANDU: Police on Friday arrested five persons on charge of attempting to loot a house

owned by Sudhir Mali at Mhyepi. Those arrested are Pasang Lama (15), Indra Gurung (13), Sonam Ghale (13), Sanjan Lama (13) and Jyoti Sherpa (13). Police said the gang was trying to tie the in-house security guard against a pillar after beating him up when a police patrol chanced upon them. — HNS
