IN BRIEF

PIL against media fiat

Kathmandu: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging the constitutionality of the recently renewed Media Ordinance. The government renewed the fiat on April 3 after the expiry of its first six-month term. Filing the petition, advocates Ravi Raj Bhandari and Kahar Singh Khadka said the same PIL is sub-judice at the SC and that the promulgation of the fiat is unconstitutional. The petitioner also accused the government of misusing Article 72(1) of the Constitution while issuing the unconstitutional Ordinance.— HNS
