Drivers penalised

KATHMANDU: The Valley Traffic Police Office (VTPO), Ramshahpath, has taken actions against 402 vehicle drivers in last 24 hours. According to the VTPO, the office has collected over Rs 10,000 as revenue from the drivers. During the same period, five accidents took place in the Valley, in which one person was seriously injured and three others slightly injured. Five vehicles were damaged in the accidents, police said. —HNS

Ministry clarification

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Labour and Transport Management has clarified that the transportation fare fixed for local public vehicles by the government on February 21 was meant only for diesel-run vehicles inside the Valley and not for the vehicles outside the Valley. The ministry also decided to ask Zonal Transport Management Committees to form teams to monitor the implementation of the fare fixed by the government. The meeting decided that the transportation fare in short routes outside Kathmandu be increased by 28 per cent. — HNS

ADB aid for CTEVT

BHAKTAPUR: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is to provide Nepal a loan assistance of Rs 1,420 million for the Centre for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to provide employment training to some 80,000 Nepalis for the next five years. The agreement was signed recently between the ADB and the CTEVT, said Director of the Plan Formulation Division of the CTEVT, Ramesh Kumar Bakhati. —RSS

Mahayagya begins

BHAKTAPUR: Nayab Bada Guruju Dr Madhav Bhattarai on Wednesday inaugurated a Shreemad Bhagawat Mahapuran organised wishing for sustainable peace in the country and to collect funds for the construct of Rameshwor Mahadev temple at Madhyapur Thimi-17. The programme is being organised on the premises of Mahendra Shanti Lower Secondary School, in association with the Jatigal Youth Organisation, and will conclude on March 9. —RSS

Meet on women rights

KATHMANDU: The National Advisory Seminar of the Women’s Rights Workers is to be held on March 3-4 in Lalitpur. The seminar is being organised with the objective of developing the agenda of women’s human rights activists as national agenda, addressing the problems faced by them, formulating policy for violence minimisation, establishing regional and national network of women human rights workers, and distributing the manifesto of human rights workers. Women rights activists throughout the country will participate in the seminar. — RSS
