KATHMANDU: An international workshop on volunteerism is to be held in Nepal from 24-26 March, 2006. Editors’ Society meet
KATHMANDU: A special meeting of the Editors’ Society Nepal on Tuesday elected Devendra Gautam, vice-chairman of the society, as the new acting chairman of the society. Meanwhile, the Editors’ and Publishers’ Federation, in a press statement issued on Wednesday, expressed deep shock over the untimely demise of the chairman of the Editors Society and senior journalist Govind Biyogi and extended condolences to the bereaved family while praying for the eternal peace to the departed soul. — RSS
Project in progress
KATHMANDU: The construction works for 4926.11m tunnel and 156.7m pen stock tunnel of the Mid-Marshyangdi Hydro Electricity Project has been completed. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, 5,935 cu m back filling works of the power house tailrace has also been completed. Similarly, an evaluation of the technological proposal on the achievement of the concentric cable under the Rural Electrification and Distribution System Improvement Project has been sent to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for agreement, the Ministry informed. According to the Ministry, selection of the consultants for the geo-technological research under the headwork of the Sikta Irrigation Project has also been completed after evaluation. — RSS
Myanmar fair
KATHMANDU: The Royal Nepali Embassay based in Mynamar participated in the international fair organised recently by the Myanmar ASEAN Women Friendship Association and the Foreign Ministry of Myanmar in the Foreign Ministry of Myanmar. There were 38 stalls in the fair belonging to embassies of various countries, UN Women’s Association, hotels and women entrepreneurs in Myanmar. In the Nepali stall, various items including metal products, Thanka paintings, statues of Buddha, and T-shirts were on display. Many booklets and publicity materials on Lumbini and tourism in Nepal were also on display. According to the embassy, a large number of Myanmarese citizens and foreign tourists observed the Nepali stall with keen interest. — RSS
