Woman held

KATHMANDU: Police team of the Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit (NDCLEU) at the Tribhuvan International Airport arrested a woman in possession of 9 kg hashish on Sunday. According to NDCLEU, police seized the narcotic from Mana Mainya Tamang during baggage check in the departure section of the airport. Tamang was en route to Bangkok. She had concealed the drug inside biscuit packets, NDCLEU said. — HNS

UAE minister arriving

KATHMANDU: Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister for Education of the United Arab Emirates, is arriving here on Tuesday on a two-day private visit. The UAE minister is scheduled to meet his counterpart Radha Krishna Mainali and some Nepali business leaders. He will leave for Dhaka on Wednesday. — HNS

NHRC is ICC member

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been re-nominated by the National Human Rights Organisations of the Asia Pacific region as a member of the International Coordination Committee (ICC) on human rights.The tenth conference of the Asia Pacific region’s National Human Rights Organisations was held in Mongolia from August 24-26 wherein the NHRC was unanimously re-nominated as a member of ICC, said an NHRC statement on Monday. The team under NHRC chairman Nain Bahadur Khatri will also participate in the 13th workshop on regional coordination concerning rights protection and promotion of the Asia Pacific region to be held in Beijing. — HNS
