India wants successful talks: Thapa

Kathmandu, October 8:

Former Prime Minister and President of Rashtriya Janashakti Party Surya Bahadur Thapa today said that major Indian party leaders have wished that the talks between the government and the Maoists be successful.

“The leaders have wished that the talks be successful and the political crisis in the country find a right solution,” he said while talking to journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport, after returning from his short visit to India.

He also added that the Indian leaders are “all alert about the political situation in Nepal,” which has been drawing attention of the whole South Asian region.

“Whenever I met a leader there, I felt they all know about the political scenario and showed their concern by asking if any development has taken place in Nepal,” he said. He added that the leaders did not show “excessive” interest in Nepal’s situation. In his recent visit during Dashain, he had met Indian leaders and political figures Atal Bihari Vajpayee, IK Gujral, Sonia Gandhi, Lal Krishna Advani and some other diplomats and experts of international relations in Delhi. After visiting some Hindu shrines for plilgrimage, Thapa went to New Delhi and met leaders and discussed on the political situation of Nepal and India.
