Induction of victim justice in statute

KATHMANDU: Dr Shankar Kumar Shrestha, a crime victim expert, today hailed the move of the Constituent Assembly Committee on Fundamental Rights for passing the proposal on the induction of victim justice as a fundamental right in the statute.

"It was a historic decision in the fundamental rights history of the world," Shrestha said.

According to him, the Constitution to be promulgated by the CA, would be the first to induct the rights of the victims of crime as the fundamental right in the world.

Dr Shrestha was releasing a book “Victim Justice System, Context and Situation” penned by himself and published by Pairavi Prakashan.

The author noted

that neither the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights nor the

international conventions had been able to recognise the rights of the victims of crime.

"The World Society of Victimology welcomes the decision," he added.
