IGP Khanal off to Thailand

Kathmandu, March 20

Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal today left for Thailand to participate in the third security officials’ meeting of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical Economic Cooperation.

IGP Khanal will be leading the Nepali delegation to the two-day meeting commencing tomorrow.

Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Force Khadga Bahadur Rai, National Investigation Department’s Investigation Director Laxman Gurung and section officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Somesh Thapa are members of the delegation.

Terrorism, drugs peddling, smuggling of arms and ammunition and human trafficking issues, ways to combat them and other issues of public security are the agenda of discussions during the meeting. Experience sharing on efforts made by the member states in relation to peace, security and disaster management will also take place during the meeting, Nepal Police Spokesperson Uttam Raj Subedi said.

The BIMSTEC security officials’ meeting is being held annually for the past three years. The delegation is scheduled to return home on March 23.
