IoM extends admission deadline of MBBS, BDS

Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University today extended the deadline for admission in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelors of Dental Science (BDS).

A public notice issued here today by Examination Controller Division, IoM said the deadline for admission in MBBS and BDS was November 20 earlier, but acting on the directive from the Ministry of Education (MoE), it had extended the deadline till December 2.

MoE had sent a letter to IoM on November 9 to extend the deadline for admission in medical colleges affiliated to TU as per merit list. MoE had also directed universities and medical colleges to follow the government directive regarding the fee ceiling to study MBBS and Doctor of Medicine (MD) courses.

Nepal government had earlier fixed the fee ceiling at Rs 3.5 million for MBBS studies within Kathmandu Valley, while medical colleges outside Kathmandu Valley could charge some extra money in addition to Rs 3.5 million as per the decision of Faculty Board of the respective university.

Similarly, a medical college could charge up to Rs 2.3 million for MD studies as per the government directive.

Later, IoM TU also published the fee ceiling for MBBS and BDS since this is the time for admission.

IoM had decided to follow the government fixed fee ceiling for MBBS studies within the Valley while MBBS studies out of the valley was fixed at Rs 3.85 million.

Likewise, the fee ceiling for BDS studies within and outside the Kathmandu valley was fixed at Rs 1.75 million by IoM.

It has also stated that 50 per cent of the total amount should be paid in the first instalment during admission and 30 per cent in second instalment in the third year. The remaining 20 per cent should be paid in the third instalment in the fourth year.
