Janajatis to observe Sept 20 as black day

Activists and experts lobbying for the rights of indigenous nationalities today said the new constitution was regressive and hence unacceptable to them.

At a meeting of Padma Ratna Tuladhar-led Indigenous Nationalities National Movement here today several activists and experts condemned the leaders of major parties for not incorporating the issues raised by the indigenous people in the new constitution.

Dr Krishna Hachhethu, Shankar Limbu, Shyam Shrestha, Malla K Sundar, Parsuram Tamang, Stella Tamang and Suresh Ale Magar, among others, had discussed the issues of indigenous people with the leaders of INNM.

Shankar Limbu of the INNM said the new constitution includes several articles that are against the rights of indigenous people. He said the new constitution has sown the seed of conflict by not naming the provinces.
