Japanese varsity to back victims of crime here

Kathmandu, February 2:

The Tokiwa University of Japan and Kathmandu School of Law have joined hands in their pledge to work together for supporting victims of crime in Nepal.

Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day symposium on “Victims of Crime and Recovery Measures” here today, Susumu Nagai, professor of the Department of Human Science of the Tokiwa University, expressed willingness to cooperate with Nepali institutions on counselling and other recovery measures to the victims of crime.

The programme was organised by the Restorative Justice Centre of the Kathmandu School of Law to draw the attention of the principal actors of the country’s criminal justice system. Professor Nagai gave an account of the support system to victims of crime in Japan.

Stating that the crime victims suffer psychologically, socially and emotionally, he said lawyers and counsellors should take account of these factors while providing relevant services to their clients. The director of the Kathmandu School of Law, Yuba Raj Sangroula, who spoke on the occasion stressed the need to deliver timely justice to all the victims of crime.
