Jatra of Rato Machhnidranath put off again

LALITPUR, July 27

The stalled chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath has been postponed at least for a month.

The chariot procession had to be stopped for three months after the April 25 earthquake and the malamas or the dark month of Asar in the Lunar calendar.

The procession has been postponed once against again due to the shukra tara astha starting from August 1, according to Chief of Guthi Sansthan Rudranath Adhikari.

The chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath had begun on April 22, three days before the devastating earthquake struck the country.

The chariot is presently stationed at Chyasikot of Lalitpur.

The deity was unmounted from the Rato Machhindranath chariot on Thursday.
