Jha set to make VP comeback

KATHMANDU: Preparations are underway for another oath of the office and secrecy ceremony for the inactive Vice President Parmananda Jha on Sunday.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal reportedly wrote to the President's Office to make the necessary arrangements for the event.

It has been learnt that Jha is considering taking oath in Maithali rather than Nepali. Jha's position was rendered inactive after the Supreme Court verdict nullified his oath of office taken in Hindi language earlier.

Subsequently the interim Constitution 2007 was amended by the House making provision for the oath to be taken in mother tongues.

The government is speeding up the process to activate the Vice President's position before President Dr Ram Baran Yadav leaves on an official visit to India from February 15.
