JMCC wants 2nd phase verification from May 1

Kathmandu, April 16:

Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee (JMCC), General Jan Erik Wilhelmsen, has proposed to begin the second phase of the verification of Maoist combatants from May 1.

Wilhelmsen’s proposal came at a JMCC meeting held here today.

The JMCC would decide when to begin the verification process after it finalises the details of the verification modalities.

“The UNMIN (United Nations Mission in Nepal) is ready to begin the second stage of verification, but the date is yet to be finalised,” the UNMIN’s spokesperson said.

The meeting of the Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee also discussed the issue of Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army (PLA) personnel deserting cantonment sites in various places, including Ilam and Chitwan, in the past.
