June deadline for poll too tight: Martin

Kathmandu, October 13:

The timeframe for an election to the Constituent Assembly by next “monsoon” is too “tight” and that much work needs to be done, said Ian Martin, personal representative of the UN secretary-general, said at a press meet organised here today by the UN.

“Once the UN team’s roles in the arrangements and modalities of arms management, electoral process and ceasefire code of conduct are clearly defined, the UN monitoring team will come here with more capacity and logistics for the monitoring work,” Martin said. Ongoing talks in Nepal are proceeding fast by international standards, Martin said.
