KATHMANDU: Attorney General Bharat Bahadur Karki has recently promoted two Government Joint-Attorneys Prem Raj Karki and Raj Narayan Pathak for the post of acting Deputy Attorney Generals.
Dr. Karki has passed the decision to fill up the vacancies after the Judicial Council appointed then Deputy Attorney Generals Kumar Chundal and Tika Bahadur Hamal for the post of appellate court judges.
“If the Judicial Service Commission approved the decision, then they would become the Deputy Attorney Generals,” a source said. Pathak is the lone official serving the term as government attorney and Karki the spokesperson of the dismissed formal Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) that was formed by then King Gyanendra to suppress democratic agitation. Karki is said to have regretted later on over his role during the royal regime. The RCCC was dissolved by the Supreme Court two months before Gyanendra surrendered his power to popular uprising.
Karki also allegedly involved in collecting discorporate property, according to CIAA. After the reinstatement of democracy , the CIAA had closed its investigation against Koirala. Karki was also the investigation officer to probe Koirala’s property.
However, Pathak expressed his dissatisfaction over the recent appointment.
He accused that the JC did not follow the principle of inclusiveness while appointing the judges in the appellate courts and district courts.
