King’s cavalry now under CoAS
Kathmandu, October 5:
The King’s Household Cavalry, located at Singha Durbar under the Royal Brigade Command, has been placed under the command of the Chief of Army Staff at the Army Headquarters from today.
“The Cavalry, which was under the palace till yesterday, has been put under the Chief of Army Staff from today,” Brig Gen Ramindra Chettri, Spokesperson for the Nepal Army (NA), said.
The Cavalry was put under the Royal Brigade Command some five or six years ago as it was felt that the cavalry was often used by the palace. “The maximum strength of the cavalry must be 100,” a high-level source at the NA said. A few days ago, after the king’s visit to the Kumari temple, PM GP Koirala ordered the Army Chief Rookmangud Katwal to halve the number of security personnel deployed in the palace.
