KMC developing detailed land use plan

Kathmandu, February 24:

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is preparing to develop detailed physical land use plan. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide financial support for the project through the Earthquake Megacities Initiatives (EMI), an international non-profit scientific organisation.

The land use plan would be geographically limited to KMC. The KMC, National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET) and EMI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 10 in this regard.

According to the MoU, the agreement would be valid for two years from the date of execution but will be renewed after it expires upon mutual agreement among the three parties.

An operational and functional disaster risk management structure would also be formed within the KMC.

Chief of the Urban Development Department of KMC Bimal Rijal said the project would help develop the metropolitan transport master plan.

The KMC in its plans and programmes this year stated that the metropolis would begin work to develop metropolitan transport master plan.
